Background and Membership

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business was founded in 1996 as a non-profit organization, primarily serving owners of Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), professionals, and scholars in SME research. SMEs are defined by the number of employees:

• Manufacturing: fewer than 100 employees

• Non-manufacturing: fewer than 50 employees

Objectives

The Chamber represents and protects the interests of SMEs in Hong Kong, unites SME owners to strive for a better business environment, builds networks, creates business opportunities, and enhances management quality and productivity to improve competitiveness.

Ambition

We are determined to become an excellent business association and civil organization, continually striving to promote the development and prosperity of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong.

Vision and Mission Statement

To become an outstanding non-governmental association promoting the development and prosperity of SMEs in Hong Kong.

We, representing owners of Small and Medium Businesses in Hong Kong, pledge to:​

• Reflect concerns and opinions to policy makers for the best interest of the Small and Medium Business Sector;

• Collect, analyze and disseminate up-to-date information on the business opportunities and challenges for taking responsive and proactive strategic actions;

• Provide education and training in modern management and technical skills;

• Build up network with local and overseas organizations for business collaboration;

• Promote the professional image of the Chamber and our members for enhancing goodwill with global business communities;

• Foster harmonious social relationships between SMEs and all sectors.

​Activities

The Chamber organizes various activities to satisfy the needs of our members, including government policy feedback, academic seminars, business talks, overseas visits and trade delegations, exhibitions, networking events, and publications, etc.

Members' Rights

All members are eligible to participate in activities organized or co-organized by the Chamber. Through active participation, members can achieve the following:

• Reflect collective policy opinions to policy makers for promoting a better business environment;

• Share business experience and build up connections with owners of various sectors, local and overseas, for promoting fellowship and exploring business opportunities;

• Gain business knowledge, modern management skills, and business & market intelligence for enhancing one’s competitiveness.
